Connect Ashland

It's always nice to have a place for new members to introduce themselves and share a bit about there interests or in this case ones art. So I will begin...

I've lived in the Ashland/Talent area for 26+ years now and have been expressing myself through art for the past 15 years. I started with collage art and grew into computer art and digital photography. My desire to express through art grew out of my chronic pain due to Fibromyalgia. I needed something to do with my active mind that didn't cause more pain. Eventually I got to a place where I was creating 'Places I'd rather be than in pain' and found it helped block my attention on the pain and focus my energies on beauty instead. Since teaching myself computer graphics I have created thousands of images. I didn't stick to one style either. I do collages, mandalas, 3d landscapes, fractals, floral designs, nature and flower photography, photo manipulation....the list goes on! I'm the yet undiscovered famous artist known as Dave Orchid !!

Good Idea Dave! My turn!
I've lived in Ashland for 8 1/2 years. I moved here shortly after my husband and I got married. We moved from the Midwest. I have a love for art and babies! At the moment my art does not combine the two. I am a nanny and an artist. I started school at SOU in spring of 2002 and majored in art. My favorite art medium is clay. I was lucky enough to start my school career with Jim Romberg as my instructor in the ceramics department. That is where my love of Raku formed! When Jim left I was then blessed with Randy Warren! I thank them both for my love of clay and Raku firings! I have been in a loss of kiln use and studio space so my goal over the next 6 months is to move forward and continue with ceramics and soon as I get a studio space with kiln. Over the last couple of years I have formed an art group called "A_musing Womyn". We are a group of Ashland Women who love to create, laugh and love! We create a variety of art. I work with clay, beads, fabric, metal clay, sewing, and sculpture. I love to find my supplies at yard sales and second hand stores. Some of the other women create earrings, necklaces, fairy crowns and wands, paintings, photographs, and whatever else we think up! Please come visit us at the Talent Friday Market Starting June 12th 2009! I'm the yet undiscovered famous artist known as Kaia Hilson of A_musing Womyn! Peace!

Welcome Marty,
I have Apophysis on my computer but have yet to play with it. Glad you joined the group and I look forward to exploring your art.

Hi, my name is Marty Schulte. I've been playing drums and percussion instruments all of my life. I escaped from California about 20 years ago because I just didn't belong there.

12 members and only 2 besides myself have introduced themselves...come on members...let's share about what we create and who we are!
Hi Everyone,

My name is Betsy Lewis and I am an artist and an Art Career Strategist. My business name is Art Event Productions and my mission is to help artists achieve the goals and dreams of their careers. I work on an individual basis assisting artists in navigating the business and marketing world of art. I also produce theme art events - usually around art and healing topics. By creating edgy interesting constellations of events I hope to create a "buzz" around art and ensure that the participating artists get as much publicity and recognition as possible (and some for their resumes!)

I am an emerging artist myself. I create mandalas with Copic Fine Art Markers, and have created a series of coloring pages using my designs. My last production starting in April of this year, drew together many of the mandala artists in the valley in a series of events which spanned several months. I am planning another group event of mandala artists for April 2010. I am interested finding even more mandala artists for this.

My current series for this September - November 2009 is titled "Shining Light on the Dark: the Gifts of the Dark Night of the Soul." I just posted a Call for Artists about how to participate in this right here on Ashland Connect. You can visit my website of call me at 890-1453.

I like your self confidence and your art. :)
OK fellow artists...four out of 16 members have shared a bit about themselves and the art they produce. Let's do something with this group by at least introducing ourselves. Then maybe we can see how this group can help us. I know I need help figuring out how to get my art out there. Perhaps some of you unknown members have some ideas. Please do share a bit about yourselves....
Dave
