Let's hear your ideas on how a family of 3 or 4 can spend an entire weekend having good times without spending a dollar more than $50.
I'll start the suggestions with this contribution ...
Saturday:
Start the day with a good breakfast at home. Steel cut oats are nutritious, filling and a staple of foods in the storage cabinet. Add some fresh fruit. Then grab some empty bottles that can hold water and fill 'em up with ice.
Now put the kids' bikes in the car, grab the tennis rackets and head over to Lithia Park for some tennis with the spouse while the kids ride around within eye and earshot. Get some good exercise on the court and then go for a nice walk around Lithia Park and cool off. Let the kids play in the play area. Then head on over to Garfield park and let the kids play in the water play area.
Break out the picnic lunch and snack away!
Now it's time to get back home for some time indoors and let the heat of the day pass you by. Take a family nap and have a family cuddle. Good times. Eat dinner and take a nice stroll as a family to walk off the calories.
Later in the evening, take the kids to see the Green Show at the OSF. It's free and fun! It starts at 7:15 pm. Then grab some ice cream up the street at Zoey's. That might set you back about $15 for the four of you.
What a great day! Now grab your blankets and pillows and go catch a movie in the park. You had a full day of fun and it only cost you $15.
Sunday:
You've got $35 left over to splurge on Sunday with lunch at Louie's Bar or Big Town Hero after church. In the evening, you can take the family on a nice hike in Lithia Park or one of the numerous trails or down to Emigrant Lake for a dip (if you saved a few bucks you might enjoy the slide!). Or go for a family ride on your bikes on the Greenway.
Then head back home early to play some games with the kids, do some reading (i know a really Good Book) and perhaps take in a movie on hulu.com (no renting!).
Now get some sleep. You've got to get to work in the morning, big spender!
