Can DNA evolve if given enough time?

From a single cell, everything we see and know evolved. Right? So, apparently, the DNA of that cell did as well. Somewhere along the spectrum of life on planet Earth there exists evidence of intermediary species and within those specimens reside the DNA codes that prove species do indeed evolve ... as does DNA.
