ASHLAND, OR, June 24, 2009 /PressRelease/ -- Danny Moffat, local Ashland musician, presents a weekly music series titled “Harper’s Live and Outside” which kicks off July 5th at Harper’s Restaurant. Harper’s Live and Outside is designed to showcase and support local musicians in a picturesque outdoor setting. Audience members will experience local music coupled with local food. All of Harpers dishes are made from ingredients that come exclusively within a 200 mile radius of Ashland.
The first performance will be held July 5th and features Oregon Shakespeare Festival veteran and Guitar Nine Records recording artist David Rogers on classical guitar and lute. David Rogers also plays in “The Ashland Guitar Quartet”. Rogers was recently termed, ‘a prominent guitarist,’ by the New York Times. David Rogers fuses classical, jazz, early, and world music elements into powerful, moving and virtuosic performances based on both original compositions and traditional repertoire.
Harper’s Live and Outside features a broad spectrum of local musicians that range from classical to contemporary. Musicians play in a natural setting on Harper’s back patio amidst the garden and overlooking Southern Oregon’s signature hills to the north. Performances start the first Sunday in July with David Rogers and go from 10 am-Noon every Sunday. Other artists slated to grace Harper’s back patio in July include Classic rock duo Great Minds Unplugged, acoustic artist Aaron Reed of Monk and Danny Moffat’s own newly formed band Celebrities of Tragedy.
Harper’s Live and Outside aims to break open the Ashland’s music scene to a wider audience. “I think Harper’s is poised to strengthen the music community by giving artists more exposure. I work or go to school during the week so I can’t just go out and see my favorite band on a random week night. Hosting my favorite musicians around town outside on a Sunday morning is a more practical way for me to relax and check out what my friends in the music community are up to. There are a lot of families here in Ashland and I imagine that a lot of parents are in a similar situation.” says Harper’s music coordinator, and member of local band Celebrities of Tragedy, Danny Moffat.
